A Long Walk to Water
During this unit, we are examining the novel Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick. We will be using it as a comparative novel, examining how the themes presented in Wonderstruck relate to the novels Maniac Magee, and Frindle, The Phantom Tollbooth, Helen Keller: The Story of My Life, The Handmade Alphabet, and the nonfiction article "The History of Deaf Culture and Sign Language." Students will read, discuss, and write in response to all of these texts, sharing their thoughts and providing textual evidence to support their claims.
