This site is devoted to becoming a resource center for the Manistee High School's 1-to-1 laptop program named PowerLearning.

The intent is to bring resources together so that it is easy to see how this program works, explain the benefits of the program, provide help resources and make announcements pertinent to teachers, students, families and the Manistee area.

Program Overview

Technology has become an increasingly critical tool to advance learning at Manistee High School in recent years. We see great potential for its use in the learning process as we seek to meet our mission: To educate and challenge all students to their highest level of achievement.

The laptop program Is being launched with the freshman class of the 08/09 school year. Each freshman that is a full-time participant in the MHS program will receive a laptop. The program will be expanded each year by providing laptops to the incoming class of freshman. Students will keep the same laptop for the duration of their career at MHS.

Below are two links (the video is provided in two formats) that highlight the reasons we feel it is nessasary to have a one-to-one program at MHS. One is a 41 second video explaining why we want to do this program. (Thanks to Panasonic for the use of their commercial. ) The second is a slide show that you can view on Acrobat Reader.

Other Districts Successfully Utilizing a 1-to-1 Program

Pennfield Schools - This district is using a similar model to what we are proposing but are one year ahead of us and gave laptops to the freshman class during the 07/08 school year.

Holland Christian Schools - They are using a slightly different model then what we are proposing but are similar in size to MAPS and have many great resources available. Their parent testimonials are also helpful in getting a perspective on how parents view the program now that it has been implemented.
